Patrick Cantlay made nine birdies in his final round to win the ZOZO Championship @ Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks. The California native and UCLA alum earned his third career PGA Tour victory in his 101st career start.
Cantlay shot (67-65-68-65) - (-23) as the field shredded Sherwood CC which seemed to be set-up for its members rather than tour pros. Cantlay took home $1,440,000 and 500 FedEx Cup points for the victory. He ranks second (604) in FedEx Cup points behind Bryson DeChambeau (675).
Fifty-four hole leader Justin Thomas, who seemed invincible heading into Sunday’s round, shot a three-under (69) and finished in 2nd place.
Defending champion Tiger Woods finished T-72 after a final-round 2-over (74). Woods and Phil Mickelson were paired together. ”Lefty” finished with a rough six-over (78) and placed 76th at (72-74-67-78) - (+3) for the tournament. Mickelson was coming off a win via the PGA Tour Champions circuit, winning $300,000 at the Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Virginia, October 16-18.
