
Laird in a Playoff: Scotsman Martin Laird birdied the second playoff hole at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas to defeat Matthew Wolff and Austin Cook for the title at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open. It was his first tour victory in seven years. Laird had bogeyed the final hole of regulation play to allow a playoff.
Laird earned his fourth tour victory and second at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open (Also won in 2009). Laird’s other PGA Tour victories were at the 2011 Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and 2013 Valero Texas Open. He took home $1,260,000 first place prize money and 500 FedExCup points to move into fourth place in the standings.
Laird had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee last year, prior to the restart of the 2020 season.
Tournament Notes: Matthew Wolff has finished second in each of his last two starts and three times in his last 10 outings (2nd/Rocket Mortgage Classic, 2nd/U.S. Open, T2/Shriners Hospitals for Children Open).
Austin Cook (T2) had his best showing since winning The RSM Classic in 2017.
