36 HOLE UPDATE: Sam Burns shot a bogey-free five-under (65) to combine with his first round (68) to take the lead at the Vivint Houston Open. Burns led by two shots after the second round of the 2020 Safeway Open, but finished T-7 after weekend rounds of 72-70.
Due to darkness, the second round was suspended at 5:45 p.m. (local) with one player (Charl Schwartzel) left to complete his round. The second round will resume at 7:15 a.m. Saturday. Third-round tee times will begin at 7:55am (local)/ 8:55am (EST) in threesomes off Nos. 1 and 10.
The weather report is calling for sunny skies in the low 80s, with winds (East/NE) from 6-12 mph.

Sam Burns, who missed the cut in the 2019 Houston Open, ranks in top 10 on the tour in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee (5th) and Driving Distance (T9th) as he entered the week. Over first two rounds, Burns ranks: 3rd/SG: Off the Tee, T17/Driving Distance
Jason Day (T-2/ (-5)) is a 12-time PGA Tour winner but is seeking his first win since the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship. Day made his fifth start of the season and this is his first time at the Houston Open.
Carlos Ortiz (T-2/(-5)) is a three-time winner on the Korn-Ferry Tour. He is seeking his first win in 118th career start on the tour. Ortiz’ career-best result was T-2 at the 2019 Mayakoba Golf Classic.
Phil Mickelson, tuning-up for the Masters after a few outings on the PGA Champions tour, recorded his highest career score on a par 3, carding an 8 on the par-3 ninth. He also plugged his second-longest “hole out for eagle” on tour (since 2003) with a 193-yard hole out on the par-4 No. 18. Mickelson missed the cut with rounds of 76-73.
