Genevieve Ann Lyons - (1925-2025)
Genevieve Ann Lyons passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at the age of 100 and 57 days. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband, Timothy F. Lyons II, her son, Timothy F. Lyons III, her sisters, Mary (Kelly) Lloyd and Helen (Kelly) Sweeney, and her brother, Thomas Kelly.
She is survived by her sons: Thomas (wife: Shawn) of Farmingdale, NY, and Terrence (wife: Clare) of Boston, Massachusetts. Genevieve was deeply loved by her grandchildren: Timothy IV, Christopher, Sean, Paul, Rory, Kian, Victoria, and Alexandra Genevieve, and her 14 wonderful great-grandchildren.
Genevieve grew up in Kingston, Pennsylvania, just across the Susquehanna River from Wilkes-Barre. She moved to Washington, D.C. during World War II and met her husband, Tim; they settled in the Bronx, then purchased a home in Levittown (Island Trees), Long Island, as original home owners in the sprawling Levitt developments. Down payment on their home in 1948 was $100.
In the 1960s, she began a lengthy career with (then) First National City Bank, where they developed and launched “The Everything Card,” which eventually became VISA. She worked at Citibank in Huntington, Long Island, and continued her education, earning a BA from Adelphi University in Garden City, NY.
Both before and after the death of her husband, who had worked for Pan American World Airways, she enjoyed travelling the world. From her high school days in Pennsylvania, she enjoyed the sport of basketball, and her yearbook listed her as a four-year letter winner in the sport. She passed that love of basketball and sports on to all three of her sons.
She enjoyed reading and gardening, and her Long Island home of more than 70 years was decorated with red geraniums each and every spring, often planted as Mother’s Day gifts from her son, Thomas. She enjoyed listening to music, and Dionne Warwick singing her catalog of Burt Bacharach songs could be heard throughout the house every weekend morning.
On Friday, June 6, there will be a prayer service at Dalton Funeral Home (2786 Hempstead Turnpike, Levittown, NY 11756) – (516) 879-3070 from 9am-10am, then a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:15am at Genevieve’s longtime parish, St. Ignatius Loyola R.C.
